I refer to your recent request for UK mergers and acquisitions (M&A) data relating to SME's in the construction industry. Unfortunately ONS does not currently provide industry breakdowns for Domestic M&A data (UK companies acquiring other UK companies). However we do publish detailed breakdowns of statistics on M&A made in the UK by foreign companies (inward M&A) and also M&A made abroad by UK companies (outward M&A) which are included within the foreign direct investment estimates presented in our statistical bulletin:
You can download the data tables used in the bulletin for both inward FDI (overseas investment into the UK) and outward FDI (UK investment overseas) tables, which include estimates on positions (stock of investment), flows (investment transactions each period that include M&A) and earnings (income generated from those investments. The tables include industry and country breakdowns.
The M&A microdata sets produced by ONS are held in the ONS' virtual microdata laboratory. Approved researchers can visit ONS sites and view these historic datasets which may aid your analysis.
