2. Median and average salary for veterinarians in private practice and academia

3. If available, median and average salary for veterinary anesthesiologists in private practice and academia

We said

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request regarding median and average salary for anesthesiologists and veterinarians.

We collect some of this data in the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE). ASHE is carried out in April each year. It is the most comprehensive source of earnings information in the United Kingdom. ASHE is based on a 1% sample of employee jobs taken from HM Revenue and Customs' Pay As You Earn (PAYE) records. ASHE does not cover the self-employed or employees not paid during the reference period. ASHE information relates to gross pay before tax, National Insurance or other deductions, and excludes payments in kind.

The ONS publishes median and mean pay by occupation (defined by the standard occupational classification (SOC)) in ASHE table 14.

ASHE Table 14 contains median and mean pay for annual pay, weekly pay, hourly pay and other pay variables for all occupations in the SOC classification. This includes veterinarians, which correspond to SOC code 2240.

We do not collect information for human anesthesiologists, however, we publish information for specialist medical specialists (SOC code 2212).

We do not collect information for veterinarian anesthesiologists, or specialist veterinarians.

We do not collect data split by academia and private practice.
