You asked

Is there a knife crime statistic for UK measured by ethnicity?

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

We publish statistics taken from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and crimes recorded by the police.

The most relevant information published by ONS would be the Homicide in England and Wales figures (table 10) which provides the number of offences currently recorded as homicide by a sharp instrument by age and ethnic appearance of victim, for England and Wales, year ending March 2011 to year ending March 2021.

Data on police recorded crime figures are provided to us by the Home Office. We do not hold police recorded crime figures on overall offences involving a knife or sharp instrument by ethnic group. It may be worth contacting the Home Office directly for further information on this. They can be contacted via email at: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.

Data on prosecutions and convictions by ethnicity are collected by the Home Office and published by the Ministry of Justice. The latest release is Statistics on Race and the Criminal Justice System 2020. It may also be worth contacting the Ministry of Justice for further information on this. They can be contacted via email at: ESD@justice.gov.uk.

You may also find the NHS hospital admissions data for assault by sharp instrument useful.

Our statistics only cover England and Wales. Information on crime in Scotland can be found on the Scottish government website or by contacting Justice_Analysts@gov.scot. Information on crime in Northern Ireland can be found on the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency website.
