Thank you for your query regarding Labour Market information for Taunton.

The ONS Vacancy Survey only collects information on the total number of vacancies being advertised by organisations within the UK. This information is not supplied by occupation or based on the location of the vacancy. Consequently, it is only possible to provide information on the breakdown of jobs by industry for the whole of the UK. This information is published each month in spreadsheet VACS02 as part of our labour market release.

According to the latest estimates, there were 16,000 job vacancies in the Motor Trades industry across the UK for the three-month period July to September 2021.

We publish employment and unemployment statistics for local areas from the Annual Population Survey, a survey based on interviews with people resident in private households in the UK. Estimates for local areas, including local authorities released quarterly for a rolling twelve-month period, as part of our regional labour market release.

We also publish the information on our NOMIS website, where it can be accessed as part of a labour market profile which covers the main headline indicators available for local authorities in our local authority area reports. Please see the linked report for Somerset West and Taunton.

The latest unemployment and employment estimates can be accessed from that report, along with the historic time series.

The official statistics of numbers on furlough are produced by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) from administrative data. The latest figures include breakdowns for local authorities.
