Thank you for your Freedom of Information request about international migration and its effect on house prices.

As you mentioned, in a Sunday Times interview on 8 April 2018, the housing minister, said that he “has been told by civil servants that immigration had a sizeable impact on house prices, citing figures from the ONS from 1991 to 2016. ‘Based on the ONS data, the advice to me from the department is that in the last 25 years we have seen immigration put house prices up by something like 20%’ he said.”

The analysis referred to in the Minister’s interview was produced by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) using ONS data. You may be able to get further information from MHCLG.
