Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for publishing mortality statistics for deaths registered in England and Wales.

The most recent annual figures available are for deaths registered in 2019. These statistics are based on the date of death registration. Table 2 of the dataset published alongside this release includes infant mortality rates disaggregated by area of usual residence, which includes unitary authorities, districts and counties. There are also explorable datasets in NOMIS using ONS data where users are able to filter death registration data by age, date and low level geographies.

Our main Child and Infant Mortality statistical bulletin is published in February each year. These statistics are based on the date the death occurred, rather than the date the death was registered. This means that infant mortality rates will differ slightly because statistics based on the death occurrences include more late registrations. The latest data available from this release are for all infant deaths that occurred in 2018. Table 3 of our Child and Infant Mortality dataset, which was released alongside the bulletin, provides infant mortality rates disaggregated by area of usual residence.

Infant mortality data based on death occurrences for 2019 are scheduled to be released in February 2021. However, this will not show figures for the requested four historic local councils, but instead will show a figure for Buckinghamshire Unitary Authority.

Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide you with the data requested.
