We are responsible for the provision of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Therefore, we do not hold the requested data for the whole of the UK. Should you wish to obtain this data from NRS and NISRA, they can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.
We have not conducted analysis of this specific cause of death for the requested age group in England and Wales. Our NOMIS webservice will provide deaths for age groups 1-4 and 5-9 by specific ICD-10 codes including A08.08 for Rotaviral Enteritis.
However, we can produce the requested information for England and Wales data as a bespoke data set. Please note, for deaths where diarrhoea is the underlying cause of death or a contributory mention we would require further clarification on which ICD-10 code you would like. This custom analysis would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate. We can provide 2021 data, however until July 2022 this data would be provisional and subject to change. This is to allow the inclusion of late registrations, which are deaths which have been referred to Coroner. We would be unable to include vaccine status of the deceased, as we do not hold this information. Vaccine status is not recorded on the death certificate, and we do not hold any further data in relation to the rotavirus vaccine.
