Thank you for your enquiry regarding homicide, rape and criminal investigations.

Homicide

The latest Homicide article was released on 25 February 2021 and contains data for the year ending March 2020 based on the Homicide Index recorded by the Home Office. The accompanying data tables can be found here and include information on long-term trends and victim characteristics. This includes information on victims by ethnic group (Table 5a and 5b, Table 6 and Table 9) but not sexual orientation. Table 23 to Table 29 also provide some information on convictions.

Tables 14a/b and 15a/b provide some insight into the apparent circumstance of homicide but this is not specified by hate crime or gendercide.

This data is provided to us by the Home Office who may be able to provide further information and can be contacted at: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk

Rape

We hold some of the information you have requested. Our latest publication from the 18 March 2021 on Sexual offences victim characteristics, England and Wales: year ending March 2020 includes data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) year ending March 2018 to year ending March 2020 combined. In this article and the accompanying data set there is information on the percentage of adults aged 16 to 74 years who were victims of sexual assault (including a category on Rape or assault by penetration) by personal characteristics. Table 5 contains a breakdown of victims by ethnic group and sexual orientation.

For sexual offences against children some Police Recorded Crime data is available in Table 13 relating to the above publication, however this is not broken down by victim ethnicity and sexual orientation. For the CSEW we produce a separate publication that focuses on child abuse in England and Wales, the latest release can be found here: Child abuse in England and Wales.

In 2018 we published an article on sexual offending that featured some information about case length, court proceedings and sentencing which can be found here: Sexual Offending: victimisation and the path through the criminal justice system.
