Victim sex (as disclosed by the police)
Victim age
Location (e.g., street/in or around the home/commercial property/park/facility (e.g., prison/hospital)
London borough
Weapon used/method
Please highlight if any deaths included were harmed in previous years (e.g., person was assaulted in 2005 but died in 2009 as a result of their injury/injuries)

We publish a release called 'Homicide in England and Wales' which analyses data from the Home Office Homicide Index. The Home Office Homicide Index contains record-level information about each homicide recorded by police in England and Wales.
Worksheet 4 of our Appendix tables: homicide in England and Wales published alongside this release provides the sex and age of victims of homicide for England and Wales, we do not provide this data specifically for London. However, we do provide a total number of homicides recorded in London in Table 24 of this same release.
Additionally in Worksheet 19 we provide the location of homicide incidents broken down by sex of victim. We also provide information on the method of killing in worksheet 8. This is further explored with additional tables provided specifically looking at sharp instruments and firearms.
Please note that the tables linked only provide data back to the year ending March 2013, not 1998. Previous years data can be found in previous versions of this article here. These statistics cover England and Wales (unless a different geography is specified).
Unfortunately, we do not hold data for specific London boroughs. We also do not hold data on incidents where victims of homicide were harmed in previous years.
