You asked
Please provide national year-by-year statistics for how many hit-and-run / failing to stop cases have been closed after six months due to the statutory obligation of the incident being classed as a summary offence under the Road Traffic Offenders Act.
Can you also please provide the average yearly rate at which each police force would close a case under these circumstances?
I would like this information to go back to 2005.

Thank you for your enquiry.
We produce statistics from two main data sources, the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and Police Recorded Crime (PRC). Our publications and data focus on crime as it is experienced by victims, or as it is recorded by the police across England and Wales.
We unfortunately do not hold data specifically on closed cases due to the Road Traffic Offenders Act.
However, you may find our data on deaths caused by various types of unlawful driving useful. This can be found in Table A5a of the Crime in England and Wales: Appendix Tables dating back to the year ending March 2003.
More information on driving offences at the Police force area level can be found in the Home Office publication Police recorded crime and outcomes open data tables.
For more information on police recorded crime, the Home Office may be able to help. They can be contacted via email at: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.
