You asked

Please supply data from 2018 to 2022 of children under 18 years old that suffer heart attacks with no known underlying illness.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

We do not hold data on those who suffer heart attacks but recover from them. NHS Digital may be better placed to answer your enquiry. They can be contacted via email at enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk.

Mortality data

We hold mortality data for children under the age of 18 who have died due to myocardial infarction, but we have not conducted analysis of these deaths with no pre-existing conditions.

The NOMIS Webservice will provide deaths due to myocardial infarction in 5 year age groups, where a heart attack was the underlying cause. However, this does not preclude pre-existing conditions.

The ICD-10 code for heart attack/Myocardial infarction is:

  • I21 Acute myocardial infarction
  • I22 Subsequent myocardial infarction

2020 Data

2021 data will be available in July 2022, this is to allow the inclusion of late registrations, which are deaths which have been referred for Coroner's investigation.

2022 data is still provisional and subject to change.

We can provide deaths involving myocardial infarction in under 18s with no pre-existing conditions as bespoke user requested data, and this can include provisional data for 2021 and 2022 if required. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). Such enquiries can be made to the HALE Customer Services team on Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.
