Gross domestic product (GDP) rental value of owner-occupied housing

From 1970 until as recently as possible, please provide annual and if possible quarterly figures, calculated on a single basis, for the contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) made by imputed rental value of owner-occupied housing. Please also provide the figures for the same time periods for total GDP calculated on the same basis.

Quarterly and annual estimates of imputed rental of owner-occupiers as a percentage of GDP, as well as levels of GDP and imputed rental of owner-occupiers in chained volume measure (CVM) terms are presented in the attached annex A. Estimates presented in chained volume measures remove the effect of price changes (inflation). These figures are seasonally adjusted (SA) to remove the effect of seasonality.

Data is only available from 1985 onwards, prior to this period we do not have detail available at this level due to a lack of data sources. Data prior to this period for household expenditure is compiled at the top level only.

The GDP figures quoted are consistent with the Quarterly National Accounts published on 29 June 2018 and the imputed rental of owner-occupier figures quoted are consistent with the Consumer Trends release published on 29 June 2018.
