I've been looking for some data on your website regarding recruitment across government departments and was hoping you could tell me if this is available, or point me in the right direction please?
Ideally, I'm looking for the following:
- What rate government departments are recruiting at, specifically for ethnic minorities and gender
- Ideally by department, rather than just civil service overall
- Over the last 5 years

The main source of detailed data on employment in and by government departments is the annual Civil Service statistics release.
Data from 2006 up to 2018 are available on the ONS website. Table 40 of the associated data download covers the numbers of entrants and leavers for each department by gender, while table 41 shows equivalent information by ethnic group.
Following the publication of the 2018 data, responsibility for the publication of Civil Service statistics was transferred from the ONS to the Cabinet Office. Subsequent releases can be found on the gov.uk website and queries maybe better placed with civilservicestatistics@cabinetoffice.gov.uk.
