• Excel data tables on Gender ID by language and language proficiency

• Excel data tables on Gender ID by religion/no religion.

• Excel data tables on Gender ID by country/passport of birth

Thank you for your FOI request for various tables on gender identity. The following are available on our website: 

• Gender identity by language proficiency

• Gender identity by religion/no religion

We have published a high-level quality report on the Census 2021 sexual orientation and gender identity data

We are currently undertaking more detailed research into the quality of the estimates on gender identity. We have published a statement about this work and a first report - Collecting and processing data on gender identity, England and Wales: Census 2021 - which describes how the question was developed and asked, and how the collected data were coded and adjusted for undercoverage. Further reports will be published later in Summer 2023. 

We have not published any data on gender identity by country of birth, passports held or languages used. You would be able to request these as commissioned tables. However, you would experience a delay on this as we are not publishing further data or analyses on gender identity until the remaining quality reports are complete and until we have had time to consider the conclusions of the pending Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) review of statistics on this topic.
