In 2017 the Government research report into suicide aimed for 10% reduction from 2015 levels when there were 5199 in England to 2020/21 - where 2020 were 4921 in England. A reduction of 278 (not the 520 needed to meet this target).

I would like to know what steps the government is taking in regards to the following:

  1. Funding plans for the next five years for the Mental Health sector (broken down across services from early access to crisis support)

  2. What it is doing to reduce waiting times for therapy to reduce the risk of people reaching crisis point

  3. Training and upskilling of all health professionals (who are often only trained in theory and not in practice)

In addition, people from minority groups (ethnic minorities and LGBTQ+) are twice as likely to develop/live with mental health conditions and face additional stigma and discrimination from services, putting them at increasing risk of crisis and suicide.

I would like to know what the government is doing to improve services and support specifically for these minority groups.
