I am keen to quantify the number of female HGV drivers in Great Britain. Specifically I would like to request Data that I can cross reference with the 2021 census. 2022 or 2023 data would also be useful. I would like:
- Data applicable to the whole of GB then preferably the ability to separate it by country so I can apply it to the different data sets I have above.
- All data applicable to minor group 821, or even better 8211: LARGE GOODS VEHICLE DRIVERS, hopefully as APS because larger sample sizes are better.
- Any HGV applicable/available meta data, gender breakdowns, ethnicity breakdowns, age is also particularly applicable in this occupation because of the high rate of 50+ drivers.

Estimates of employment by occupation are available from the Annual Population Survey, and published via Nomis each quarter on a rolling-annual basis.

From the homepage, select "Data Sources"
Select "Annual Population Survey/Labour Force Survey"
For data from 2021 onwards, select "annual population survey - regional - occupation (SOC2020) by sex by employment type"
For data from 2020 and prior, select "annual population survey - regional - employment by occupation"
Then you can select the occupation (8211, or 821), the geography (country, LA, region etc), and the time periods of interest. You can also select sex breakdowns here.

We have also published some data on the ONS website that may be of interest. This table shows HGV drivers (SOC code 8211) by nationality and 10-year age group, between April 2014 to March 2015 and April 2022 to March 2023 (the latest data available).
