FOI ref: FOI-2024-2170
You asked
I am requesting information solely for the year ending March 2024.
My first request is for a breakdown of exposure and voyeurism, as these are distinct offences.
I am also wondering if there is any data for outraging public decency (often in the same category as public nuisance)? This is an alternate charge for exposure, but I can't find any relevant offences on the dataset.
We said
Thank you for your request.
We primarily produce statistics from two main sources, Police Recorded Crime (PRC) and the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW).
Police recorded exposure and voyeurism offences, are presented in Table A4 of our Crime in England and Wales: Appendix tables. These data are provided to us in aggregate form by the Home Office. We do not hold any further breakdowns of these data. We also do not hold any data for “outraging public decency”.
As police recorded crime data are provided to us by the Home Office, they may be able to assist you further. They can be contacted using the following email: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.
You may also be interested in our indecent exposure estimates which are published annually using data from the CSEW in Tables S40-S43c of our Crime in England and Wales: Annual supplementary tables.
If you have any other crime-related enquiries in the future, the ONS Centre for Crime and Justice can be reached at CrimeStatistics@ons.gov.uk.
