Thank you for your request regarding excess deaths.

ONS are responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from death certificates. We do not hold excess death related statistics for Scotland and Northern Ireland. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

ONS have produced excess death statistics for England and Wales, please see Excess deaths in England and Wales which includes data from March 2020 to June 2022. We hold analysis of excess deaths by place of occurrence but have not produced further breakdowns of this by age groups. We may be able to create this as a bespoke request for you. However, this would be subject to disclosure controls. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate).
