Thank you for your request regarding drink or drug related driving offences, arrests, prosecutions, road accidents, and roadside testing.

Police recorded crime data published as part of our Crime in England and Wales quarterly bulletins provide a breakdown of driving offences under the category of 'Death or serious injury - unlawful driving' in Appendix Table A4. The only driving offence which references the use of alcohol or drugs is 'Causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs'. However, this offence does not separately identify whether the victim was a driver, passenger, or pedestrian.

We have not undertaken analysis showing the number of deaths associated with drug driving. Therefore, we do not hold the information you have requested. We also do not hold data relating to road accidents or roadside testing, these are held and published by the Department for Transport (DfT). DfT data on reported drink or drug driving accidents and casualties can be found here. DfT are contactable by e-mail: roadacc.stats@dft.gov.uk and they may be able to provide you with more information.

We also do not hold arrests data for driving offences; these are held and published by the Home Office, who can be contacted by email: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk and may be able to provide you with more information.

We do not hold data relating to prosecutions and court outcomes for driving offences; these are held and published by the Ministry of Justice, who are contactable by e-mail: ESD@justice.gov.uk and may be able to provide you with more information.

If you have any crime-related queries in the future, please email crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
