You asked
Please could you provide (or direct me to) the most recent fatality figures for Great Britain for the years 2020 to 2025 (latest available), broken down as follows:
Young drivers killed — where the driver was aged 17 to 24 (or your standard “young driver” definition), by year. Passengers killed in collisions involving a young driver — by year, with passenger age bands if available. If available any breakdowns by sex, road type (urban/rural), time of day, and contributory factors (e.g., speed, impairment, inexperience) would also be helpful but not entirely necessary.
We said
Thank you for your request.
Our mortality statistics are derived from information collected at death registration. Information on type of road, time of day and contributory factors are not collected at death registration, so we do not hold that information.
All conditions mentioned on the death certificate are coded using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10). From all of these causes an underlying cause of death is selected using ICD-10 coding rules.
The underlying cause of death is defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as:
a) the disease or injury that initiated the train of events directly leading to death, or
b) the circumstances of the accident or violence that produced the fatal injury
The ICD10 codes for car occupant injured in transport accident are V40 -- V49. The ICD10 codes for other modes of transport can be found on the WHO website.
Figures on the number of drivers and passengers by sex and age can be obtained from our explorable dataset available on our NOMIS webservice

The Department for Transport publish statistics relating to road casualties and fatalities for Great Britain. Dataset RAS02 provides figures for the number of drivers and passengers killed by age group and sex and dataset RAS03 provides the figures by type of road. Their road casualties interactive dashboard also allows the user to look at road fatality figures by time of day of the collision and certain impairments. For further information on these statistics please contact roadacc.stats@dft.gov.uk.
Figures for the number of fatalities to young drivers in Northern Ireland are produced by The Police Service of Northern Ireland. Their Detailed Trends supplementary datasets provide information on road casualties and fatalities by sex and age, whilst the accompanying dataset provides these figures by road type and causation factors.
