You asked

Does the ONS have statistics on the amount of domestic violence cases which have been reported in South Yorkshire within the last 6 years?

Please provide a file which includes the statistics of domestic abuse cases reported within the last 6 years. Preferably a weekly (312 weeks), or if not a monthly (72 months) account for domestic violence cases reported in South Yorkshire from 01/06/16 to 01/06/22.

Thank you for your request.

The Home Office has been collecting information from the police on whether recorded offences are related to domestic abuse since April 2015. In response to a recommendation in the Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) 2014 report "Everyone's business: Improving the police response to domestic abuse", police forces are asked to "identify" crimes as being domestic abuse-related if the offence meets the government definition of domestic violence and abuse.

Table 1 of our Domestic abuse prevalence and victim characteristics tables year ending March 2021 edition shows the number of domestic abuse-related crimes recorded by the police and the percentage of offences that were domestic abuse-related, by police force area, England and Wales, year ending March 2016 to year ending March 2021. South Yorkshire Police Force Area (PFA) features in this table. This table will be updated with data for the year ending March 2022 on 25 November 2022.

Within the same set of tables, Table 14 shows the monthly number of offences recorded by the police identified as domestic abuse-related, England and Wales, January 2018 to June 2021. This data is provided at national level rather than PFA.

Unfortunately, we do not have data on weekly or monthly domestic abuse-related crimes by PFAs such as South Yorkshire.

Police recorded crime data are collated by the Home Office; you may wish to contact them via crimeandpolicestats@homeoffice.gov.uk to see if they can assist further.
