You asked
Under the Freedom of Information Act I would like to request information in relation to domestic abuse cases during the year 2017-2018, that involved European Union Area women living within England and Wales.
Also I would like to know the number of cases reported in Scotland for the same period of time.
We said
Thank you for your enquiry.
Data on offences recorded by the police that were flagged as being domestic abuse-related in the financial year ending March 2018 in England and Wales are published in tables F5a and F5b of our "Crime in England and Wales, year ending March 2018" release and are available here:
Please note that these cover offences against all victims; we do not hold these data broken down by the sex or nationality of the victim, so we are unable to provide this information for women who are European Union (EU) nationals. The Home Office are responsible for the collection of these data and may be able to provide further breakdowns.
Data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW; which does not cover Scotland) on domestic abuse experienced by women aged 16 to 74 in England and Wales in the financial year ending March 2018 are published in table S35 of our aforementioned "Crime in England and Wales, year ending March 2018" release and are available here: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/datasets/crimeinenglandandwalesannualsupplementarytables.
Under Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), your request for domestic abuse data, specifically broken down for EU nationals, would be information not held as we would need to create the bespoke analysis in order to answer your request. As we are not obligated to create information under FOIA, such analysis would fall outside the FOI regime and would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources, and agreement of costs.
Special extracts and tabulations of crime data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). Such enquiries should be made to: crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk. We recommend that you contact the crime team directly in order to discuss your data requirements in more detail.
The data previously referred to only cover England and Wales; we do not hold crime survey data or data on police recorded crime covering Scotland.
Crime-related data for Scotland are published by the Scottish Government and are available here: https://www.gov.scot/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Crime-Justice.
