I would like to request information under the Freedom of Information Act. Please could you provide the following information:
1) In 2020, how many deaths were caused by gabapentin, including those in which it was implicated alongside other substances?
2) In 2020, how many deaths were caused by pregabalin, including those in which it was implicated alongside other substances?
I would like to receive the information electronically. The latest information on Deaths related to drug poisoning in England and Wales: 2019 registrations.
You can find mortality statistics up to 2019 for deaths involving gabapentin and pregabalin in our Deaths related to drug poisoning by selected substances, these figures can be found in the 'Pivot table'
For us to fully comply with your request, we would need to create a bespoke analysis. Public authorities are not obligated to create analysis in order to answer requests under the Freedom of Information Act. We therefore consider this to be information not held.
This may be available to commission later this year, as the update to Deaths related to drug poisoning by selected substances will be finalised for 2020.
