  • Total annual number of United Kingdom wide (England, Wales & Scotland) deaths for those aged 80 and below for the years 2000 to 2020.
  • Total annual number of United Kingdom wide (England, Wales & Scotland) deaths for those aged 60 and below for the years 2000 to 2020.

We are responsible for the production of Mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

Information on deaths by specific age group for 2000 - 2019, along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate).

2020 deaths

All cause mortality is published weekly in 5-year age bands within the following publication: Deaths Registered Weekly in England and Wales.

As of 1 January 2021, 63,602 deaths were in the <1 to 59 age band and 269,112 deaths were in the <1 to 79 age band.
