You asked

For the most recent week that figures are available please provide breakdowns of

1) all coronavirus deaths which occurred in private homes and

2) all deaths which occurred in private homes since 1 March, under the FOIA 2000.

Please breakdown both sets of figures to the smallest area level possible (either LSOA, MSOA or per local authority area) and by a) gender AND b) age of deceased in decades (e.g. 0-10, 10-20 etc).

To clarify the origin of the figures I am referring to for part 1, the below table shows that to-date deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19) up to Week 21 (week ending 22 May 2020), 1,991 deaths occurred in private homes (1,991 deaths).

Thank you for your enquiry.

This information can be found within our Death registrations and occurrences by local authority and health board.  This provides provisional counts of the number of deaths registered in England and Wales, including deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19), by local authority, health board and place of death in the latest weeks for which data are available. Place of death includes care home, private home, hospital, hospice and other communal establishment.

Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide an age and gender breakdown at this low level of Geography, as this would prove to be disclosive and, consequently, would be considered personal information. Section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (SRSA) renders it an offence to disclose information held by the Statistics Board for statistical purposes that would identify an individual or a body corporate. As we are prohibited by law from publishing statistics in which individual businesses can be identified, we find that Section 44 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies. Section 44 is an absolute exemption and no consideration of the public interest test needs to be applied.

However, please see the following publication, which provides an age breakdown of COVID-19 deaths: Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional: week ending 26 June 2020
