Thank you for your enquiry.

We are responsible for the production of Mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

We hold headline figures using broad age groups for UK deaths in table 4 of our Deaths Registered Weekly Publication. The 0-44 age group has 1691 registered deaths. Using the same dataset, in England and Wales the number of registered deaths involving COVID-19 from 1st January 2020 to 28th May 2021 (latest available data) aged 0-39  is 883 registered deaths.

Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide you with Deaths involving COVID-19 in the UK by the specific age group 0-40. We would to create a new bespoke analysis to fulfil this. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.
