We said
Thank you for your request.
We are responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. We therefore do not hold the requested data for the whole of the UK. Data for Scotland and Northern Ireland can be obtained from NRS and NISRA respectively. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk.
For England and Wales, the number of deaths where the underlying cause was either Myocardial Infarction (ICD10 codes I21 - I23), Deep Vein Thrombosis (ICD10 Codes I80.1 - I80.3, 180.9, 182.9) or Pulmonary Embolism (ICD10 Code I26) is available on our NOMIS webservice. Please see the following instructions for using this service:
- Select the geography - England and Wales
- Select Age - 20 to 40 years
- Select Gender - Total or Male/Female
- Select cause of death (ICD10 code search is available)
- Select format (Excel or CSV for example)
We have not published any information on the number of deaths where any of these diseases were mentioned on the death certificate (a combination). The requested information would therefore need to be created as a custom output.
Information on the number of deaths where myocardial infarction, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism were mentioned on the death certificate, along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order. Please note these services are subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs in line with our charging policy.
