You asked

Please provide death statistics for Northern Ireland for every year until 2020.

Specifically total number of deaths for any reason, in each year from year 2000 up until 26 December 2020.

If you do not have the data above for Northern Ireland, then the UK as a whole will suffice.

Thank you for your enquiry.

We are responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales. This is driven by information collected from the death certificate at the time of death registration.

The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Northern Ireland as it is a devolved issue. They can be contacted at info@nisra.gov.uk.

We do publish headline figures within our Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages. The latest data available is 2019.

Whilst the data has not yet been finalised for 2020, all three Statistical authorities have published blogs with year-end figures.
