You asked

Please could I request:

Deaths with an underlying cause of cancer, by type of cancer, where neutropenia and an infection (bacterial pneumonia or septicaemia) were mentioned on the death certificate. Deaths registered in 2016 to 2023, by sex and specified age groups.

We said

Thank you for your request.

We publish deaths due to cancer by specific type on our NOMIS webservice for 2016 to 2021, with 2022 data available in July 2023. However, NOMIS does not provide mentions on the death certificate, it will only show where cancer was the underlying cause of death.

If you wish to use NOMIS, please see the following instructions:

  • Select Period – 2013 to 2021

  • Select the geography (England and Wales, regional or by local authority).

  • Select Age – All ages or 5-year age bands.

  • Select Gender – Total or Male/Female

  • Select rates – All deaths, rates or percentage of population for example.

  • Select cause of death (ICD10 code search is available).

  • Select format (Excel or CSV for example)

Further analysis can be order via our bespoke services from the Health Analysis and Pandemic Insight Customer Service team.

Such services are subject to legal frameworks, resources and agreement of costs, subject to our charging policy. If you would like to request this bespoke dataset, please contact Health.data@ons.gov.uk to discuss your enquiry further.

Please note, data for 2022 and 2023 is still provisional and subject to change. This is to allow the inclusion of late registrations. 2022 data will be finalised in July 2023.

As this information is reasonably accessible via another route, even if only accessible on payment, Section 21(2)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies.
