We are responsible for the production of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively. 

We have published the number of deaths due to colorectal cancer in England and Wales for deaths registered between 2012 and 2017 and 2018 to 2019 on our website. 

Figures for 2020 to 2024 can be obtained from our explorable dataset available on our NOMIS webservice  

Instructions for use of this service:  

  • Select geography (England and Wales, regional, or by local authority)  

  • Select age (all ages, or five-year age bands)  

  • Select gender (total, or male or female)  

  • Select rates (all births, rates, or percentage of population, for example)  

  • Select ICD10 code for the underlying cause of death  

  • Select format (Excel or CSV, for example)  

The ICD 10 codes for colorectal cancer are: 

  • C18 Malignant neoplasm of colon 

  • C19 Malignant neoplasm of rectosigmoid junction 

  • C20 Malignant neoplasm of rectum 

Statistics relating to the incidence of colorectal cancer are published by NHS EnglandWelsh Cancer Intelligence and Surveillance UnitPublic Health Scotland and Northern Ireland Cancer Registry.
