We produce statistics for deaths registered in England and Wales. The latest data available relates to deaths registered in 2016. The data for 2017 is due to be published in July.

The international classification of diseases, version 10 (ICD-10) is used to assign an underlying cause of death from the information provided on the death certificate. Deaths where the underlying cause was a stroke are usually coded to I64 (Stroke, not specified as haemorrhage or infarction).

Mortality data by geography, 5-year age groups, sex and underlying cause of death are available for 2013-2016 from our explorable dataset: https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/query/select/getdatasetbytheme.asp?theme=73

You will be able to filter the deaths by females aged 70-74 with an underlying cause of I64 in England and Wales.
