Could you provide any information or data relating to deaths by suicide within the fire and rescue services nationally in the UK.
Specifically from the Standard Occupation Classification (SOC 2010):
1173 Senior officers in fire, ambulance, prison and related services
3313 Fire service officers (watch manager and below)
If possible, could this also be broken down by ethnicity and sex?

We are responsible for the production of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Therefore, we do not hold the requested information for the whole of the UK. Please follow these links to previous user requested data showing the number of suicides by occupation and sex for deaths registered between 2020 to 2022 and 2011 to 2021.
Our mortality statistics are derived from information collected on the death certificate. Until September 2024, the ethnicity of the deceased was not routinely collected. We are currently carrying out an analysis of the quality of this new ethnicity data which is still in a provisional state and not currently used in our outputs.
We have previously linked Census data to our death registration data so that we can use the ethnicity information provided on the 2011 Census to produce experimental mortality statistics with an ethnicity breakdown.
Our experimental statistics on Sociodemographic inequalities in suicides in England and Wales provide the number of deaths due to suicide by ethnicity for deaths registered between 2011 and 2021.
We do not hold any analysis on suicides by occupation or ethnicity for deaths registered in 2023. However, you may be able to order a bespoke tabulation via our User Requested Data Service. Please note these services are subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs in line with our charging policy.
