  1. Do you keep records of people who die alone at home in each of the Lancashire, Cumbria, Merseyside and Cheshire areas? If so, please supply the figures for the last 9 years, since 2010.

  2. Do you keep records of the length of delay between a person dying alone at home and the body being discovered? If so, please supply figures for all the above areas in the last 9 years, since 2010.

  3. Please supply the records of the causes of death of people dying at home alone for the last 9 years, since 2010 for each above area including the different causes and the numbers of people dying of each different cause.

  4. Do you keep records of how many people have died in their homes, in the above areas, whilst waiting for "at home" Social care services?

Please could you advise which other bodies or departments may also keep such records.

We are responsible for publishing mortality statistics for deaths registered in England and Wales, using the information supplied on the death certificate. Therefore, we do not hold data relating to the number of people who die alone or how long they are waiting for social care services.

We do however publish data on the number of death occurrences at home within Table 10 of our deaths registered in England and Wales publication. The most recent year for which mortality statistics are available is 2018.

The Department of Health and Social Care or NHS Digital may be better placed to answer your questions.
