We are responsible for mortality statistics for England and Wales which is taken from information collected during the death registration process. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.
We do not hold information on positive COVID-19 test results or when COVID-19 was diagnosed for deceased individuals, as this information is not provided on the death certificate.
We would be unable to provide you with an anonymised raw copy of the requested data. In order to fulfil this request, we would need use a high level of statistical skill and judgement in order to create bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

Thisprovides the number of deaths registered each month in England and Wales, including deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19), by age, sex and country with analysis of pre-existing conditions. Please note, this publication is now paused due to the reduction in deaths from COVID-19.
The following monthly publication, Monthly mortality analysis, England and Wales, is available for July, August and September data providing provisional death registration data for England and Wales, broken down by sex, age and country. This includes deaths due to COVID-19 and leading causes of death.
Death registrations and occurrences by local authority and health board: This is a weekly publication which shows COVID-19 deaths by local authority level. This will provide data on the place of death, such as care home, hospital, private home or another communal establishment. This is updated every Tuesday. We do not publish age at this level due to the small numbers involved, in line with our disclosure policy. Death registrations are recorded by postcode of usual residence. The 'occurrences' workbook will provide date of death, whereas registrations will provide date of death registration.
Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional: This publication provides provisional counts of the number of deaths registered in England and Wales, by age, sex and region, in the latest weeks for which data are available. This includes the most up-to-date figures available for deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19). This will provide data by sex and age bands.
