You asked
Please could you provide me with statistics for the time period 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2024. I would like to request:
- Number of critical care beds across the UK
- Number of admissions to Critical care during the above time period
- Number of discharges from Critical care during the above time period
- Mortality number and percentage from all critical care environments in the UK during the above time period
- The UK average mortality rate and figure in critical care during the above time period

We are responsible for the production of mortality statistics for deaths registered in England and Wales. This is driven by information collected from death certificates at registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for mortality statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.
We do not hold information on the number of beds, `admissions or discharges related to critical care in hospitals, and the death certificate information we receive to produce our mortality publications does not hold information on whether the deceased was a critical care patient.
You may be able to obtain this information from NHS England, NHS Wales, NHS Scotland and Health and Social Care Northern Ireland. They can be contacted by clicking on the links above and by contacting individual health board in Wales.
In case it is of interest, our Deaths registered in England and Wales publication provides both the crude and age standardised mortality rate for England and Wales from 1994 to 2022. These figures relate to all deaths registered in all settings.
