We said

Thank you for your request for information relating to crimes in Britain during the 20th century in which the victims were Irish and crimes reported by Irish citizens. Unfortunately, we do not hold the data you have requested.

In the ‘Historical crime data’ tables published on the Home Office website, you will be able to see crimes recorded by the police in England and Wales during the 20th century, however, it is not possible to separately identify crimes committed against the Irish during this period.

With reference to your request for data regarding xenophobic slurs or behaviour against the Irish during the 20th Century, as mentioned prior to April 2008 there was no way of identifying whether a crime was a hate crime in the data recorded by the police, therefore it is not possible to separately identify these types of crimes against the Irish in Britain during the 20th Century.

If you would like any further information, you can simply email us at CrimeStatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
