FOI reference: FOI-2025-3064

You asked

I am writing under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request comprehensive UK crime statistics broken down by nationality for the last five years (2019--2023, or most recent data available).

For each of the past five years, please provide:

  • Total recorded crimes, broken down by the alleged offender's nationality
  • Where possible, the number of charges and convictions by nationality (and by main offence category: violence, sexual offences, theft, drug-related, robbery, public order, etc.)
  • Any data relating to migrants, foreign nationals, or asylum seekers (if available by status)
  • If existing tables already cover these statistics, please direct me to the specific sources or datasets

We said

Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately, we do not hold the data you have requested.

We publish statistics from two main sources: the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and police recorded crime. Both sources provide statistics on crime as they are experienced by victims, or as it is recorded by the police.

The Ministry of Justice are primarily responsible for data on offenders, and they publish statistics each quarter. If you require any further information, the Ministry of Justice can be contacted directly at CJS_Statistics@justice.gov.uk

Additionally, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) publish overall prosecution figures and police referrals as well as charging rates in their CPS quarterly data summaries, which may be of use.

If you have any other crime-related queries, please email crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help you.
