5. How many deaths were recorded monthly within the UK from seasonal "flu" aka influenza? Please specify all countries.

We hold analysis showing leading causes of death in our monthly mortality analysis, which includes monthly figures for influenza and pneumonia. You can see these figures in tables 11a and 11b. Please note, this is a new publication which was produced in response to the pandemic. We do not hold published monthly breakdowns by influenza split between country prior to 2020. To provide a breakdown of influenza deaths as you have requested, we would need to create bespoke analysis. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). Such enquiries would fall outside of the Freedom of Information regime.

6. How many excess deaths were recorded monthly within the UK since August 2019? Please specify all countries.

Please see table 5a of our excess deaths dataset for monthly figures in 2020. We do not hold monthly breakdowns for excess deaths prior to 2020. We may also be able to produce this as a bespoke tabulation. Should you wish to request this, please follow the aforementioned process.

For all cause monthly mortality for England and Wales, please see table 1, column N of our monthly mortality analysis dataset. Monthly deaths involving COVID-19 for England and Wales are available in table 11a and 11b. You can find the monthly total of number deaths not involving COVID-19, by subtracting the COVID-19 total (11a,11b) from the all cause total in table 1.

From 2019 to 2020 you can find mortality figures that did not involve COVID-19 from our monthly deaths data set.The first registered COVID-19 death was in March 2020.

8. How many deaths were recorded annually within the UK that was not related to COVID-19 aka Coronavirus since 2010 ? Please specify all countries.

We hold analysis showing historic all-cause mortality statistics up to 2019 in the following dataset: Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages.

To publish this dataset, we collaborated with Northern Ireland (NISRA: Northern Island Statistical Research Agency) and Scotland (NRS: National Records Scotland) to collate headline figures for the UK. Due to individual publishing timelines, analysis of UK figures for 2020 are expected to be published January 2022.

We have recently published details of deaths in 2020 in our deaths registered series. England and Wales all-cause mortality totals for 2020 are available in table 1. The 2020 total number of COVID-19 deaths can be found in table 9a, in column D12. You can find the 2020 total number of deaths not involving COVID-19, by subtracting the COVID-19 total (9a) from the all cause total in table 1.

9. How many deaths have been recorded monthly within the UK where people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 aka Coronavirus?

Information regarding deaths involving COVID-19 after receipt of the vaccination requires complex analysis linking vaccination records to death registrations. We are currently working on analysis on all aspects of the relationship between COVID-19 vaccination and mortality for England. The provisional release date for this publication is August 2021, but once we have finalised these plans this will be announced on our Release Calendar.

12. How many UK deaths are estimated annually within the next 10 years once the entire population has been vaccinated?

Our figures are derived from mortality data taken from death registration. We do not produce death estimates and therefore we do not hold this information.

If you would like to discuss your requests further, please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk.

13. What is the estimated annual total population of the UK by 2050?

We provide projections of the population based on the population estimates and using assumptions about trends in births, deaths and international migration observed in recent years. From the latest 2018-based population projections our principal projection shows that the population of the UK will grow to 73.6million people by 2050. Our population projections do not take account of future social and political changes which may occur.
