You asked

I am looking for the data that shows current infection rates per area per month (i.e. Macclesfield).

Thank you for your request.

Due to small sample sizes, we only publish data at the regional and sub-regional level. Publishing data for smaller geographical areas for which smaller sample sizes are obtained, such as Macclesfield, would mean a significant increase in uncertainty of trends in infection rates.

Additionally, if the sample size is too small, this is usually the case at smaller regional levels, participants are potentially identifiable. This contradicts the pseudonymisation process used within the study. Further information can be found in the study protocol, which can be found here.

Consequently, we do not hold analysis showing data at the geography level you require.

The Macclesfield region would contribute to data for the North West of England region and the Cheshire East sub-region.

In the data set Coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection Survey accompanying our latest bulletin you can find the following data for the period 22 November 2020 to 02 January 2021.

  • Modelled daily positivity rates by region on tab 1f, which includes data for North West England.
  • Positivity rate by CIS sub-region on tab 1k, which includes data for Cheshire East

Please note these are estimates from the COVID-19 Infection survey. The Department for Health and Social Care produce the number of confirmed daily cases including by local authority in their dashboard here, where more specific data for the Macclesfield region will be located.
