Infection data:

The Covid Infection Survey is a household survey which began in England on 26 April 2020, therefore we do not hold data prior to this date. The survey was introduced in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland at later dates.

In the dataset accompanying our latest bulletin, you can find:

The percentage testing positive for COVID-19 by age/school year and non-overlapping 14-day periods (weighted) in England from 9 May 2020 on tab 1h.

Due to prior small sample sizes, analysis by age was not produced for the Devolved Administrations until January 2021. You can find the modelled daily rates of the percentage of the population testing positive for COVID-19 by single year of age from January 2021 onwards:

In Wales on tab 3e

In Northern Ireland on tab 4e

In Scotland on tab 5e

We do not provide this data as a percentage compared to the overall population, but you can find the official reported estimates of percentage testing positive:

In England on tab 1a

In Wales on tab 3a

In Northern Ireland on tab 4a

In Scotland on tab 5a

Death statistics:

We are responsible for mortality data for England and Wales. However, we have collaborated with National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) to produce headline COVID-19 figures for the UK and its constituent countries. These data are available in the provisional weekly deaths publication. Numbers of deaths involving COVID-19 by age group for the UK are available in the excel reference tables.

The number and proportion of death certificates from January to December 2020 in England and Wales where the death was due to COVID-19 by pre-existing condition and broad age group are available as part of the Monthly mortality analysis publication. These data can be found in the following dataset: Pre-existing conditions of people who died due to COVID-19, England and Wales.

We also publish numbers of COVID-19 deaths and age-standardised rates per 100,000 population for March 2020 to January 2021 for the United Kingdom in the Monthly mortality analysis publication. These data are available in the Deaths involving COVID-19 by month of registration, UK dataset.

If you wish to produce your own calculations, then population statistics for the UK and its constituent countries up to 2019 are available in the Population estimates for the UK, England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland: mid-2019 publication. Mid-year population estimates for 2020 are not yet published, however ONS have produced population projections for 2020, which are here: National population projections table of contents. For queries regarding population statistics, please contact pop.info@ons.gov.uk.

Finalised 2020 mortality data will be published via our Deaths Registered Series and NOMIS when data are finalised in July 2021.

If you wish to discuss this further, please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk.
