You asked

I read with some interest the total fatality rates below of people dying of Covid- 19 without any pre-existing condition.

2020: 9432 (0-64: 1557 / 65 and over: 7875)

2021 Q1: 6483 (0-64: 1560/ 65 and over: 4923)

2021 Q2: 346 (0-64: 153/ 65 and over: 193)

2021 Q3: 1142 (0-64: 512/ 65 and over: 630)

With 78% (13,621) of deaths registered in the 65 & over age group, could you also supply how many of those died in the 65- 75 and 75-85 age groups please.

Thank you for your request.

We hold analysis showing deaths from COVID-19 by pre-existing conditions by broad age-bands (0-64 and 65 and over) for England and Wales. This is available in our Pre-existing conditions of people who died due to COVID-19, England and Wales publication.

We do not currently hold analysis showing COVID-19 deaths by pre-existing condition for persons aged 65-75 and 75-85 specifically. However, we can produce this for you as a bespoke request. Bespoke tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales, are available to order, subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate. Such enquiries would fall outside of the Freedom of Information regime and should be made to: Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.
