Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for publishing mortality statistics for deaths registered in England and Wales, using the information supplied on the death certificate. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for publishing the number of deaths registered in Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

The COVID-19 high risk or vulnerable groups are definitions used by the NHS. Unfortunately, we do not have information on these specific vulnerability groupings as it is not supplied on the death certificate. NHS Digital may be better placed to answer your enquiry. They can be contacted via email at enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk.

However, we have produced detailed analysis on Covid-19 related deaths by underlying cause. Table 5 also contains death occurrences with the most common pre-existing conditions. This information can be found in our bulletin Deaths involving COVID-19, England. This bulletin will be updated on 17th July 2020 to include June 2020 data.

We have also produced analysis on COVID-19 related deaths by disability which may be of interest to you. This adds a different perspective and breakdown on a broader level of Covid-19 deaths: Coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths by disability status, England and Wales: 2 March to 15 May 2020
