You asked

Please provide figures for all deaths due to Covid-19 (or its variants e.g: Covid-20) in the education sector.

I would like figures that indicate how many teachers, teaching assistants and other front line education staff have died from Covid, since January 2020 and up to and including last term (to the 18th December 2020).

I would also like to know how many from each phase e.g: if staff were working in Early Years/ Nurseries, how many from Key Stage 1, how many KS 2 and so on. If this is not recorded, then please ensure, if possible, that it is clear in which sector they were working e.g: Nursery/Primary/ Secondary/ Tertiary.

Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately, we are unable to advise what Key stage of education was taught by each category, as this information is not recorded on the death certificate.

Our latest publication and accompanying dataset showing COVID-19 deaths by occupation are available via the following links: COVID-19-related deaths by occupation in England and Wales publication and COVID-19-related deaths by occupation in England and Wales dataset.

Table 8 of the accompanying dataset provides the number of deaths involving COVID-19 and all causes by teaching and educational occupation groups (those aged 20 to 64 years) in England and Wales registered between 9th March and 28th December 2020. These are broken down into the following categories: higher education, further education, secondary education, primary education, special needs education, educational advisers and school inspectors, and other education professionals.
