Thank you for your request.

We hold the following analysis, which provides provisional Death Registrations involving COVID-19 by 5-year age group from 2020 to 2023 on a weekly basis: Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional.

We also hold the following analysis, which shows finalised deaths data 'due to' and 'involving' COVID-19 on an annual basis by 5-year age group for 2020 and 2021: Deaths due to COVID-19, registered in England and Wales - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk).

'Due to COVID-19' is used to describe deaths where COVID-19 is listed as the underlying cause of deaths on the death certificates.

'Involving COVID-19' is used to describe deaths where COVID-19 is a contributory mention on the death certificate.

We have provided a breakdown of deaths where COVID-19 is the underlying cause of death (due to) for 2020 and 2021 registered in England and Wales, taken from this publication:

2022 data is still provisional, so finalised figures will be published in July 2023. If you have any queries about this data, please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk.
