Thank you for your enquiry.

We do not hold data regarding hospital admissions and discharges. This data is held by NHS Digital, so they may be better placed to answer your query. They can be contacted via email at enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk, and by telephone at +44 (0)300 303 5678.

Unfortunately, the dataset requested would be disclosive. Section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (SRSA) renders it an offence to disclose information held by the Statistics Board for statistical purposes that would identify an individual. As we are prohibited by law from publishing statistics in which individuals can be identified, we find that Section 44 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies. Section 44 is an absolute exemption and no consideration of the public interest test needs to be applied.

However, to facilitate research projects exploring the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we have made provisional monthly death registration data and for 2019 to 2020 and census mortality linked data available for 2020 via the Secure Research Service (SRS). Access to this data is restricted to SRS accredited researchers working on COVID-19 related projects that are approved by the SRS UK Statistics Authority's Research Accreditation Panel. This is the only other legal gateway available to raw data.

Please see the Application or to become an accredited researcher where you can apply to become an accredited researcher. For further information and terms and conditions, please read the What can I request from the SRS? on the Office for National Statistics website. Please follow the UKSA guidance on completing a project application form. For further information please contact the SRS team: research.support@ons.gov.uk or telephone +44 (0)1329 447871.
