Thank you for your enquiry.

We are responsible for mortality data for England and Wales. National Records of Scotland and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Centre are responsible for Scottish and Northern Irish mortality statistics. We have collaborated with these organisations to produce some headline COVID-19 figures for the UK. These figures can be found in our latest weekly deaths bulletins and accompanying datasets. The data in this publication provides an age breakdown of deaths involving COVID-19 in the UK for 0-14 years, rather than 0-12 years.

For England and Wales, the number of monthly deaths for all causes, deaths involving COVID-19 and deaths due to COVID-19, by single year of age and average age of death for England and Wales, are available here: Single year of age and average age of death of people whose death was due to or involved COVID-19.

Should you wish to obtain similar data for Scotland and Northern Ireland, please contact NRS and NISRA via email at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

The number of deaths where an adverse reaction to the COVID-19 vaccine was mentioned as a cause on the death certificate in England and Wales can be found in Table 12 of our Monthly Mortality Analysis dataset. This information is also available split by country and ten year age groups in Table 13 of the same publication.

Table 12 and Table 13 show that there were 27 deaths due to adverse reaction to vaccine, which is identified using ICD code U12.9. None of these deaths were of children; the youngest person to die from adverse reaction to the COVID vaccine was in the 30-39 age bracket.

You might also be interested in our Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England publication, which includes data from 1 January 2021 to 31 January 2022. This analysis shows vaccination status within or exceeding 21 days, as this is the timeframe whereby the vaccine is deemed most effective.
