Please supply the proportion of COVID-19 deaths and bed occupancy among the the double vaccinated compared with those not vaccinated from July 2021 to the present (6 December 2021).

We said

Thank you for your enquiry regarding COVID-19 deaths and bed occupancy by vaccination status.

We hold the following analysis Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England - Office for National Statistics which includes COVID-19 deaths by vaccination status from January 2021 to 24 September 2021. This publication includes weekly mortality rates in England by vaccination status.

The data are for England only, as vaccinations data for Wales is not yet available to be linked to the mortality dataset and the PHDA covers England only.

Notes

  1. Age-standardised mortality rates per 100,000 person-years, standardised to the 2013 European Standard Population using 5-year age groups from age 10 and over. Person-years take into account both the number of people and the amount of time spent in each vaccination state. For example, 100 people in a particular vaccination state for 0.5 years would be 50 person-years.
  2. Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures based on death registrations up to 28 July 2021 for deaths that occurred between 2 January and 24 September 2021 (Week 1 - Week 38) and were registered by 6 October 2021.
  3. ASMRs are calculated using the Public Health Data Asset, a linked dataset of people resident in England, who could be linked to the 2011 Census and GP Patient Register.
  4. Deaths were defined using the International Classification of Diseases, tenth revision (ICD-10). Deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19) are defined as those with an underlying cause, or any mention of, ICD-10 codes U07.1 (COVID-19 virus identified) or U07.2 (COVID-19, virus not identified). Please note, this differs from the definition used in the majority of mortality outputs
  5. Non-overlapping confidence intervals denote a statistically significant difference in ASMR.
  6. Low ASMRs for deaths in people who had received a dose less than 21 days prior could be due to people who had recently been infected or had another illness not receiving their dose.

We have another release including data up to 31 October 2021 that was published on 20 December 2021.

Hospitalisations and bed occupancy by vaccination status

Our data on hospital episodes is obtained from the Hospital Episode Statistics published by NHS Digital with an approximately 3 month delay. We only use this data to determine pre-existing conditions and general health of individuals, therefore we do not hold analysis on recent hospitalisations due to COVID-19.

Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide you with hospitalisations by vaccination status. To fulfil this request, we would need use a high level of statistical skill, including complex data linkage to NHS data in order to create a bespoke analysis or table. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.
