FOI Ref: FOI/2021/3161

You asked

Please supply data on Covid-19 death rates by occupation from March 2020 to now, separated by occupation and male/female and also grouped - as per the only other statistics I can find on this on the ONS website - by lockdown and non-lockdown dates for the past 18 months.

We said

Thank you for your request.

Our latest release on this topic, named Coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths by occupation, England and Wales: deaths registered between 9 March and 28 December 2020, provides COVID-19 deaths by minor occupation group in Table 6. This is split by sex aged between 20-64. This was not aggregated further with lockdown and non-lockdown periods due to disclosive figures that would be produced. This is in line with our disclosure control policy: Policy on protecting confidentiality in tables of birth and death statistics.

We have also produced an adhoc dataset which you may have referenced in your request: Coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths by occupation, England and Wales: before and during the lockdown. We were not able to aggregate this with minor occupation group and sex owing to the disclosure reason mentioned above.

Unfortunately, we do not hold analysis for 2021 which includes details of occupation. To fulfil this request, we would need to create a bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

If you would like to discuss your request further, please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk.
