You asked

You break the COVID-19 death figures down into the age categories of;

Deaths under 1 year – a 1 year age range

Deaths 1 yr-14yrs – a 14 year age range

Deaths 15yrs-44yrs – a 30 year age range

Deaths 45yrs-64yrs – a 20 year age range

Deaths 65yrs-74yrs – a 10 year age range

Deaths 75yrs-84yrs – again a 10 year age

Deaths 85+

I would like the figures for each individual year if possible and if not at least a maximum age span of five years not 30 years as your figures released show.

I would also like to request if these deaths could be categorised into those with known underlying health conditions and those without please.

Thank you for your enquiry.

Age bands can vary depending the other variables that we publish, therefore if we publish at a low-level geography with age, sex and cause of death included, the age bands will be made broader to prevent the data being disclosive. However, most of our publications do use 5-year age bands.

Our Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional provides provisional counts of COVID-19 deaths registered in England and Wales, by age, sex and region, in the latest weeks for which data are available. Includes the most up-to-date figures available for deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19). This data is shown in 5-year age bands.

COVID-19 deaths with pre-existing conditions can be found in the dataset Deaths involving COVID-19, England and Wales.

This publication uses a broader age band for 0-44 years due to the cause of death and underlying cause of death being published, and the small number of deaths within this age group. We then move to 5-year age bands for age 45 onwards as the number of deaths increases.

More information can be found within our Disclosure policy.

The latest data available is to June 2020, as this publication has been now been paused.

In order to provide you with COVID-19 deaths by single year of age or COVID-19 deaths with pre-existing conditions for July onwards, we would need to create a bespoke analysis or table. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.
