Thank you for your request.

The first link in your request refers to a bespoke analysis created by our Inter Departmental Business Register (IDBR) data analysis service. The analysis has been created using the IDBR, which contains all businesses registered for VAT and/or PAYE. Therefore, the analysis you have requested would also need to be created as bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests.

However, for an updated version of this request and for the extra information you require, regarding trends in births and deaths of SME businesses, please contact our data analysis service on idbrdas@ons.gov.uk and they will be able to assist you. Please note, such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources and agreement of costs. Please note, there may be a charge for this work which would be subject to our charging policy.

Information regarding assets/investments is not held on the IDBR. However, The Quarterly Acquisitions and Disposals of Capital Assets survey (QCAS) have survey data broken down by employment size and split by manufacturing and non-manufacturing. QCAS is one of the main sources of business investment data. It cannot be directly reconciled with the business investment figures published, however, it is an indicator of what's happening at employment level.

Separately, for the business investment data itself we do publish asset and broad industry breakdown. For further information on investment into assets/services please contact gcf@ons.gov.uk.
